Wunderkammern, or "Cabinets of Curiosities," arose in mid 16th century Europe as repositories for all manner of wondrous and exotic objects. In many ways, these are seen as precursors to the modern museum. Cabinet of Curiosities will bring together disparate works from the FWMoA's Collections highlighting and juxtaposing their differences in time period, media, function and the object's relationship to the definition of art. Challenge yourself to explore the links between 19th century tableware, a Japanese Urn, contemporary ceramics and mid 20th century studio glass; the results may surprise you! Included artists will range from nationally recognized makers to those with local Fort Wayne connections. Several of the works have not been displayed previously at FWMoA, and additional works have not been on display in recent years–find out what "˜curious' objects the Museum owns!
