December 5, 2015 - February 21, 2016

William Preston Mayfield was the personal photographer for Orville and Wilbur Wright, brothers credited with inventing and building the world's first airplane. Mayfield, a Kentucky native, who lived from 1896-1974, worked as a newspaper, newsreel, commercial and aerial photographer and spent six decades capturing the people and events that made history. This exhibition includes reproductions of photographs taken by Mayfield from 1908 through as late as the 1950s, chronicling the experiments, successes, and failures of the Wrights as they developed modern flight in Dayton, Ohio.
