2007 Scholastics Art and Writing Awards
January 27 – March 1, 2007
The 2006 Scholastic Art Awards brought astounding success to the Northeast Indiana Region. The region had the highest Gold Key per county ratio in Indiana, including two Middle School National Gold Key Awards winners, Olivia Wilson and Jalisa Woods. Elmhurst Grad, Jacob Murray received a National Silver Key Portfolio Award, and a two year full ride scholarship to Columbus College of Art and Design.
This year The Fort Wayne Museum of Art expanded the region to include three Northwest Ohio counties (Defiance, Paulding and Van Wert) and add the Scholastic Writing Awards. The FWMoA will be one of only 15 regions in the country offering the writing awards program and the only region in Indiana to celebrate tomorrow’s distinguished authors.
According to Scholastic Regional Director, Max Meyer, “Many writing competitions vie for teachers’ and students’ time. This competition is the only national competition with a local award ceremony and scholarship opportunities.”
Scholarships and awards are the dream of every participant. Five local universities will be offering scholarships of over $1000 to art and writing portfolios winners. In addition, cash awards ranging from $50 to $250 will be given by local organizations. Two new and very exciting awards this year will be Bike and Boards, a local Skate Shop, reproducing a student’s artwork on their custom line of T-shirts and skate boards and “I Read It on NIPR”, featuring students reading their award winning work on Northeast Indiana Public Radio.
Good luck to all of this year’s participants, and a special thanks to our sponsors, JPMorganChase and The News-Sentinel.
