Docents

The Education Department is always looking for energetic, enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with children to act as Docents or Museum Guides for the FWMoA. A love of art is necessary, but extensive art knowledge is not. You will be trained and educated on every exhibition. If this sounds like something that interests you, Call Joslyn Elliott, 260-422-6467, ext. 319 or elliott@fwmoa.org.

The FWMoA docents (tour guides) are important parts of the museum’s outreach program, helping the museum provide tours to 11,000-18,000 students annually. In some cases, docents provide school children with their first experience with art. Approximately 30-35 people are currently volunteering as docents, and many have been involved for as long as 20 years, while others have joined more recently.

Who Can Be a Docent?
You! Anyone who has even a beginner’s interest in art is welcome to join us!

What are the Requirements?
A love of learning and sharing, enthusiasm and reliability are the main characteristics of great docents.

Call for Docents
The Fort Wayne Museum of Art is always looking for docents. The best docents like to look at art (even the modern stuff!) and interact with people of all ages. They are curious, open-minded and eager to learn. Most of them don’t have art training or teaching experience. They commit approximately six hours per week during the school year to continuing training and guiding tour groups through the museum.
